Sustaining Our Forests for Future Generations

Leq’á:mel First Nation’s Forestry Program is grounded in respect for the land and a commitment to sustainable forest management. Guided by traditional knowledge, community values, and scientific insight, we work with partners to ensure that our forests are managed responsibly — supporting environmental health, cultural preservation, and long-term economic opportunities for our Nation and future generations.

The Leq’á:mel First Nation Forestry Practices are dedicated to the sustainable management and protection of forest ecosystems within the Leq’á:mel traditional territory. Our approach balances environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and responsible resource development, ensuring that all forestry activities align with the Nation’s values, laws, and long-term vision for the land.

Leq’á:mel’s forestry initiatives are guided by traditional knowledge and informed by contemporary science. The Natural Resources department works along with our partners towards sustainable forest management under LFN Forestry Tenure, engaging in policy discussions affecting forest tenure and management practices within the territory.

Through these efforts, Leq’á:mel and their Forestry partners, continues to assert its role as a forest rights-holder and environmental steward, working to ensure that forests are managed not only for economic opportunity but for the continued cultural, spiritual, and ecological wellbeing of the Nation and its future generations.
