  • 3 days per week to start (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)
  • 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Potential to increase to 4 days per week.

Reports To: Income Assistance Worker
Salary: $23 to $25 per hour (depending on experience)

Leq’á:mel First Nation (LFN) is located 22 kilometres east of Mission. LFN continues to assert its inherent rights of self-government over its Territory, which covers a vast area of the Lower Mainland. LFN has approximately 800 Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) and is governed by Chief and Council through its Custom Election Code. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of Leq’á:mel culture and traditions, or a willingness to learn.

About the Role

Leq’á:mel First Nation (LFN) is seeking a compassionate and dependable Assisted Living Worker to provide practical, respectful, and culturally safe in-home support to Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) who require assistance with daily household tasks due to physical, mental, or socio-economic circumstances.

This role supports Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) independence, dignity, and well-being by helping maintain safe, clean, and functional home environments and by assisting with essential errands and appointments. Working under the direction of the Income Assistance Worker, the Assisted Living Worker plays a key role in supporting Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) with access to the day-to-day supports they need while remaining connected to their homes and community.

This role works closely and collaborates with the Health Care team to provide practical, community- and home-based support in a respectful, non-judgmental, and professional manner.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide non-medical and social support services to Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People), including Elders and adults living with chronic mental and/or physical disabilities, in a respectful, safe, and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Assist with meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, and other non-medical daily living tasks, including sweeping, mopping, general floor care, washing dishes, dusting, and cleaning kitchens and bathrooms, to support comfort, independence, and well-being in the home.
  • Support Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) with grocery shopping and purchasing household necessities.
  • Transport Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) to appointments and other essential errands.
  • Follow directions, service expectations, and care plans provided by the Income Assistance Worker.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Health Care team to support holistic care and services.
  • Maintain a respectful, non-judgmental, and supportive approach in all interactions, while demonstrating care and respect for Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) homes, belongings, privacy, and personal circumstances.
  • Document and chart daily duties provided to Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People), and report safety concerns, household concerns, or other issues to the Income Assistance Worker in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of the role.

Qualifications

  • Previous home support, assisted living, community support, or professional cleaning experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in a First Nation community is an asset.
  • Valid Food Safe and First Aid certification is an asset, or willingness to obtain, if required.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental approach when working with Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People).
  • Understanding of diverse needs related to physical, mental, and socio-economic challenges.
  • Knowledge of Leq’á:mel First Nation culture, traditions, and history, or willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and manage emotions in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Proven ability to follow directions and work both independently and collaboratively with team members, LFN colleagues, and external partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Outlook.
  • Physical capability to bend, lift, and carry up to 20 lbs.

Position Requirements

  • Willingness to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Comfortable transporting Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People)

Working Conditions

  • Work takes place in Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) homes and community settings.
  • Travel within the community and surrounding area will be required to support appointments, errands, and household needs.
  • Physical capability to bend, lift, and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Periodic computer use is required for documentation and reporting.
  • This position requires on-site attendance. Remote work is not available, and candidates must live within a reasonable daily commuting distance of the workplace.
