Summary

Position Type: Part-Time, 3-month term (20–24 hours/week)
Location: Deroche, BC
Hours: Regular office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Flexibility is required, as evening and weekend work will be required to support community events.

Wage: $20 per hour

Leq’á:mel First Nation (LFN) is located 22 kilometres east of Mission. LFN continues to assert its inherent rights of self-government over its Territory, which covers a vast area of the Lower Mainland. LFN has approximately 800 Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People) and is governed by Chief and Council through its Custom Election Code. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of Leq’á:mel culture and traditions, or a willingness to learn.

About the Role

The Event Support Worker provides administrative and hands-on support for community events and activities. This role assists with event coordination, preparation, and delivery to support positive community engagement, with a focus on culturally grounded programming for Elders, children, youth, and Leq’á:mel Xwélmexw (People).

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide administrative support, including organizing event files, communications, and documentation.
  • Assist with event planning, preparation, and coordination.
  • Support event setup and teardown, including lifting, organizing materials, and site preparation.
  • Coordinate the delivery and organization of event materials and supplies.
  • Communicate with vendors, suppliers, and partners to support event logistics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with event support or coordination is an asset.
  • Basic computer skills (including Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge of Leq’á:mel culture and traditions, or willingness to learn.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence is an asset.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector screening).

Working Conditions

  • Regular office hours are between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
  • Lifting and moving event equipment with an average weight of 20 lbs.
  • Flexibility is required, as evening and weekend work will be needed to support community events and activities.
  • Hours of work may be adjusted or increased based on operational needs, with as much advance notice as possible
  • This position requires on-site attendance. Remote work is not available, and candidates must live within a reasonable daily commuting distance of the workplace.
